Somehow I found something beautiful in the ruins, some of which were left over from the 1998 riots. There's also a lot of potential in the old canal neighborhood going to the harbor. You could restore it how it was in the colonial period and it could be very pretty.
As tourism is not Jakarta's selling point, information for travelers is not so easy to come by, as in Malaysia, for example. I suppose it would be very different in Bali.
