The Spirit of Australia
My favorite series of ads: Qantas 1998-2009. I only knew the song "I Still Call Australia Home" from the Peter Allen musical The Boy From Oz. My brother, who was in Sydney the past two months, showed this to me.
The opening shot of the first one is still my favorite. Great Ocean Road, I will see you someday.

How am I feeling?
It uses devices I've seen onstage before, but I don't mind. If you ask me, I feel like crawling into a hole and disappearing for a while.

Confessions
Ulrich Schnabel, I want to believe you but I do not want to be idle. Then again, you are no slacker yourself.
Donald Gunn, you charmed me. But transcribing you was nowhere as enjoyable as the interview.
Alan Rickman, you are no hunk. Not after Sense & Sensibility, the Harry Potter series, Love, Actually (where I found you pretty gay even after cheating with your officemate), and Sweeney Todd. But there is something in this Texas music video that actually makes you--dare I say it--hot. Even if you were in your mid-50s at the time.
The song is old, but I only saw it today. I have to call out the person who is responsible for these inappropriate thoughts, one Mia Marci, who described the feeling as what you get when the friend you never thought attractive gets a girlfriend and suddenly he's magnetic. Or something to that effect. I have to agree.
Now excuse me while I have another view of that petrol station tango.

Careful Guy
It took me two views to realize what the song was based on. Did anyone get it?

This made my day
Received this in my work inbox today: a message from Bob Greenberg. It might be a simple Send To All message (and another R/GA contact sent the exact message to the general editorial address at work), but I still can't get over it. Lesson: kids, never forget your business cards.

Award season
When I was the proxy recipient of an award at ADSTARS, I told Ross, "This is probably the only time I'll ever win an advertising award." He said, "Never say never."
Our recent big win at Quill may not exactly count as advertising, but it was close. And it was a huge surprise, too. Never say never.

Still my favorite campaign of the year
I mean the original, of course. But I do love all the parodies, too.
Here's last week's obsession. I'm naming our street's resident stray Wilson.

Here we go again
And for the third time in three months, I'm flying somewhere again. (I should be landing by the time this goes up.) I wonder what the best way to offset my carbon credits is. Planting trees?
Anyway, a lot of what I do these days has to do indirectly with this. Enjoy.

Can you spare five minutes for an Italian romance?
It's an ad, yes, but a beautiful one.
And oh, my work is starting to creep in on the way I write post titles. Yaiks.
"Back so soon?" you ask. Yes and no. There's no way to be sure.
