Party time!

Before we count down the minutes to 2010, a last look at Times Square HK's holiday mini-mag.

And now, time to party with DJ Earworm's United State of Pop 2009 mashup of Top 25 Billboard Hits!

On her 90th

My paternal grandmother turns 90 today. I took an old photo of hers and painted it (so you see, the technique also works in a different shade). Turning a 4x3 inches reference into 4x3 feet painting is quite a challenge. I hope I can convince her that it's her!

Five-word summaries: foreign films, part 2

If Rizal were alive today, he's enjoy a foreign film or two during MMFF season, too.

Coco Avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel, France)
Seamstress lies, loves, breaks heart

The Hard Word (Australia)
Released ex-prisoners pull off heists

L'Eretico (The Heretic, Italy)
Astrologer does not survive Inquisition

Unfinished Sky (Australia)
widower farmer adopts illegal immigrant

A note on Unfinished Sky: don't let that conventional poster turn you off. This is one of the best films I've seen all year. Very well-made from excellent material.

From the bus

Free buses shuttle between the ferry terminals and the major hotel-casinos. Here's what we saw on the road.

Ho, Ho, Ho! Dr. Stanley Ho, billionaire casino mogul

Macau Tower

Gate of Understanding

The Water Cube-like Casino Oceanus

L'Arc New World Hotel Macau

Macau by ferry

Travel companions for the day: my mom, uncle, aunt, and two nieces

boarding the TurboJet in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong Island

We took the COTAIJet from Taipa on the way back. It's more expensive and the journey is a bit longer, but it is less stressful because there are few people in the terminal.

For your MP3 collection, part 27

Question: Am I the only one who actually likes fruitcake? Hahaha!

Not a single Christmas carol, no seasonal tunes. Just stuff you can keep in your playlist year-round. Taking a day off tomorrow (you should, too). Happy holidays!

Bitbasic:"Make"- bit routine
The Go Find:"Everybody Knows It's Gonna Happen Only Not Tonight"-title says all
Henrik Jose:"I'm On Your Side"-flowing day score
Imogen Heap:"The Song That Never Was (Rymdlego remix)"-liquid process
Jonathan Boulet:"A Community Service Announcement (The Album Leaf Remix)"- thanks for the concern
Juanitos:"Hola Hola Bossa Nova"-the language change
Marco Kalnenek:"Life on Ceres"-interplanetary documentary
Meanwhileproject.ltd:"Octobersong"-total recall
MoR:"When Girls Don't Call"-there is a reason
Stay Ali:"Boogie Infection"-better than the game you're playing
Thao Nguyen:"Know Better Learn Faster"-wake up, slowpoke

Audio Fiction's drummer gave me a heads-up about their video for Way Out, a song I linked to in part 26. Thanks, Mark!

Wynn Macau

Caught the Tree of Prosperity and Dragon of Fortune shows at Wynn. They alternate every 30 minutes from 10am to 2am daily.

How to tell what's coming? If you can see smoke just before the globe opens, it's the dragon's turn.
