BBC Proms/The Guardian Young Composers' Competition
On Inspire Day, the Endymion Ensemble performed the winning pieces at Cadogan Hall. My favorites are the highly commended entries from the Junior category (12-16 years old): Ralph Kemp's (the blonde boy, extreme left) rousing eclectic mix I Don't Really Like Godzilla and Lloyd Coleman's (the blonde boy second from right) Intrada and Rondo for Wind Quintet, which shows off his promise as a future film and stage composer. I guess the others were not melodic or harmonious enough for my taste. From the introductions given by the BBC Radio 3 host, all the young composers are on their way to more exciting things as they go into music school.
