Dongdaemun Shopping Town

Dongdaemun (Great East Gate) is one of the major shopping areas in Seoul. We only passed by Dongdaemun Shopping Town but it was immediately clear that it was Carolina's Lace Shoppe multiplied a thousand times. The two department stores we entered were the new Doota at Doosan Tower and Migliore, which is a cramped tiangge with merchandise of much better quality than your usual Bangkok variety (and also not as cheap).

Department stores are closed one day a week, some on Monday, others on Sunday or Tuesday. The night markets specialize in certain types of goods and have opening hours.

Watch out for the Dongdaemun Design Plaza & Park (under construction, below) designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
