The Legend Hotel Kuala Lumpur

the grand staircase, 9th floor lobby

We arrived at the hotel very early in the morning and were settling in in the room when the power went out. We later found out that the kettle was causing the breaker to go off because of a short circuit. But that was a good few hours later after what was probably our fifth call to housekeeping. It also took ages for housekeeping to act, even for small errands like replacing towels. There were only 12 TV channels, six of them local.

It was only when we looked in the guidebooks that we found out that we were in a five-star hotel.

The best thing about the hotel was the breakfast buffet. The selection was so wide that it took me four days to sample nearly everything on offer. Our friendly waiter from Cebu was always there to greet us with a "kumusta?."

The hotel bar is called the Monkey Bar and I hope it didn't refer to the band playing. (I'm guessing at least one of them is Filipino.)

Below the hotel is The Mall, which has Parksons (a department store equivalent to Rustans), Cold Storage (supermarket), many shops selling local dress, and food options including McDonalds, Starbucks, Cinnabon, Auntie Anne's, and Secret Recipe. The PWTC LRT station is adjacent to the hotel; the Putra World Trade Center is across the street.

Would I recommend staying there? It all depends on the rate.
