Half a red carpet

Finding no sign of a premiere at Leicester Square, we went from one cinema to another, hoping to get a clue on the December Boys premiere. The kind folks at Empire made a call and found out where it was: at Odeon Covent Garden on Shaftesbury Avenue.

So it wasn't a premiere, it was a screening. And that makes a world of difference. The carpet guys changed their minds and didn't proceed with laying out the red carpet on the three-meter wide sidewalk, which got me thinking. Will Daniel Radcliffe actually turn up here? It was a gamble, and our four-hour wait was rewarded by two minutes of him breezing past. When I saw Sam and Amanda Marchant, the twins who were Big Brother runners-up, arriving and posing for photographs with people on the street, I told Marian and Momoko it was time to go.

There were three types of people there: photographers, autograph collectors and fans. As we were none of the above, it felt uncomfortable to be there. It was not the most pleasant experience on several counts, which don't need to be mentioned. And frankly, the girl with the big sign that said "MARRY ME DAN" with a Photoshop-ed picture of her in a wedding dress and with Daniel as groom was a bit too creepy for me.
