Ladies Night
This is your night tonight
Everything's gonna be alright
It was the first track that played on my "move it" station on Pandora the other day, which was a good sign. It was Girls' Night at Korallen that night. Potluck dinner and Truth or Courage (Consequence), with some very juicy details reserved normally for your closest girlfriends.
If you look carefully at the image, you'll see me and the girls preparing dinner.

Sunday possibilities
You can mix church and Christiania on Sundays. (Whether it's clean fun or not is entirely up to you.)
Many people missed Ash Wednesday, so there was imposition after the Mass.
Then I met Irene and Martin at the Christianshavn Metro station and went to Operaen in Christiania (all you need to know about the area is in this Wikipedia article. We watched (xiao)Jörg play drums at the jam session. I had falafel from one of the stalls and soda from the bar (they do have Coca-Cola now). Then Trekronerites arrived, so I took the train back with (dao)Jörg, Li, Eleonora and her boyfriend.

The Beat That My Heart Skipped
Why does Romain Duris never get old? In De Battre Mon Coeur S'est Arrêté, he does a good job of playing the piano. The film is, as French films go, kinda different. You have no clue what pops up next.

CSI Miami: David Caruso One Liners II: Sunglasses Edition
Stupendousmat made this funny montage. I must say that of all the CSIs, CSI:Miami is the only one I watched because it was the only one on free TV. Is it the worst of the three? Maybe. But don't judge it by the sunglasses and one liners.

Snow Wednesday (and Thursday and...)
[update 5:05pm]
Snow in Roskilde is what flooding is to Metro Manila. All classes were suspended today. Not much wind, very little snow, but my front door (left) still looks like this. The wind was kind enough not to deposit that mound of snow directly in front of my door. Blame auto white balance for the blue color.
[update 7:48am]
E-mail from my teachers for the morning class:
Today's class in Collaborative Communication is cancelled due to weather conditions. The roads to Roskilde are blocked, most trains have been cancelled, and very few buses are running in the metro area. Sorry! We will hold the session at a later time
Jørgen & Simon
=====================================================
Non-stop wind and snow yesterday. I meant to make it to the 7pm Ash Wednesday service, but the snowstorm was just too much. I walked with my groupmates until the bridge going to the train station when they told me to imagine coming home and not getting a train back (which has happened in severe weather). Imagine the wind whipping your face with snow at 60kph (like signal #2). On a plain with no buildings or anything else in the snowy wind's path but little you, it's painful.

"Life Explained. On Film."
I discovered VideoJug while looking for recipes. Then I went to tricep exercises. There are quite a few videos with interesting (read:hilarious) subjects. How to be a footballer's wife. Ria, I think I've got just the thing for you.

Learn a language with iTunes
If you haven't discovered the free language lessons in the iTunes store, then it's time to learn something new. French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese or Chinese? If you look hard enough, there's even Russian, Korean and "Learn Hindi from Bollywood Movies". It won't cost you anything to download the podcasts (though the PDF lessons usually come with a fee). Best of all, you don't need an iPod.

Work and play
My host university is known for its problem-oriented project work. The process of getting into a group is totally hegemonic. There are five of us in our group: myself, one Spanish girl and three Germans. Our topic has to do with climate change (a long way off from diaspora, I know), but the particulars change every time we meet. We have meetings in school before classes, but since they all live in Copenhagen, we agreed to meet at Copenhagen Business School last Thursday, bought food at the nearby Føtex and had dinner at Irene's place a short walk from there. After dinner, we went to the Studenterhus at Nørreport to watch a live band with experimental music whose lyrics are all "ahs". Maybe not what we expected, but it was free.
I got myself a library card at CBS and borrowed a book for my Computer Games essay (backlog!). You can see the tickets I use to get around: 2-zone for Roskilde (a bit over P1000), all-zone for Copenhagen (~P3150). These are good for 10 trips (5 round trips) on practically every form of transport except taxis. I have to make the most of my trips because of the cost.

Crepes@Korallen
How we spent Valentine's. Put three French girls and three frying pans together and you get a crepe party for a kitchen full of international students. I tried my hand at making crepes and came out with some awful results. But I brought Nutella and that made a difference.

Gizmo Call me
Who would you call if you had five free minutes a day to call any landline or mobile in the world? It was too late to call my mom when I first tested the service (you only have to download a tiny plug-in), so I called Indi in Arhus to be safe (no time difference). So dali, send me your numbers. My e-mail is somewhere in the profile.
Since I'm still staying away from Skype, I'll just be a Yahoo Messenger/Gizmo Call girl. That doesn't sound so good. Ahahaha!

Bright IKEA
Trying to hard to be witty there.
Last week I found a lampstand in the dump. I bought a lightbulb, but it didn't match, so I thought, nevermind, just go to IKEA and find a cheap lamp. I finally got around going to Høje Taastrup and came home with a 59kr(~P500) lamp big enough to be bright and which could use the 60w bulb. I found out that it's exactly what the rooms in Korallen (the new hall where the international students live) have. Now I can do some work nights.
IKEA is like a huge Søstrene Greene, my favorite little store of home stuff in Roskilde. (Or maybe Søstrene Greene is meant to be a tiny version of IKEA. Doesn't matter.) You follow a path that winds around the store and it feels like you see everything. If I had to live here long enough, I'd do major shopping there. But for five months, I see no problem with sticking to the basics. And as of yesterday, I had everything covered.

Going Baltic
[updated 9:05pm] Stole this from the communal webshots account of the international students. Antonio and the Asians at Gimle.
I figured it was too dark to take pictures, so you're looking at the wall of one of the common kitchens at Korallen. A freedom board with interesting statements.
I learned about the three Baltic nations, ate Baltic food and watched people play parlor games. Then we had a bit of dancing. It was good fun for only 10kr(~P85). Interesting event of the night: the fire alarm went off and as per procedure, we had stand outside in the cold until the firemen came.

Let us Spray
Watch out for Hairspray the Movie! Hard to recognize Zac Efron as Link Larkin (top) and John Travolta as plus-sized Edna Turnblad (center), but you get the picture. Am looking forward to seeing Christopher Walken in his element. Hahaha! Photos from USA Today via the Hairspray movie blog.

The Communist roommate
It's out of character for me, but I took in a roommate two weeks ago. It's like "paying forward" what Rasmus did for me when I arrived. This is an exceptional case as we are the only Asians in the course and we had met before (in Dijon), so I think I had a pretty good judgement of his character. Xiangnan (or Li) came prepared: he had a pillow, a sleeping bag and a rice cooker. Christian, as they call him in Grenoble (interesting choice for somebody without a religion and a member of the Party), was considerate and easy to get along with. Though I can't imagine this happening again (he has since found a dorm), it was good to have a cook and some company for a few days.

Karaoke night
I got this from the e-newsletter of RUC's International Club:
WHAT: Karaoke evening
WHEN: this wednesday 31 of january, from 20.00 to 23.30
WHERE: Gimle-Café
HOW MUCH: FREE
DESCRIPTION:
Join our cool Karaoke evening! Choose a song and sing, alone or with a friend.
A free shot for the first 5 performances. And if you're from The Philippines, you will surely be among those 5 first. The world knows how much you guys like Karaoke ;)Don't miss it this Wednesday eve!!
Eh ako lang ang Pinoy sa club. "Represent!" ika nga ni Indi. So I went, kinda pressured. Few people, mainly Viktorija, the Gimle crew of volunteers and some Danish rocker dudes. No Magic Mic, just CDs of minus ones and lyrics on the screen. But it was fun. I did my best not to embarrass our nation's vocal reputation. Next time I'll take pictures.
